Part of that world

Surprise! I dyed my hair red! That is something I've been wanting to do for a while now, and like with most things I do in life I suddenly just did it out of the blue. I love the color and I'm very happy letting my Scottish roots show through. (youseewhatIdidthere?) I know it's not that much of a change from how my hair was normally, and I'm okay with that. This is my first time dying my hair EVER and it was an experience I'm not afraid to have again! (Maybe some other shade of red, hmmm?)

Then a few days ago I got some awesome green skinny jeans and before sunset decided to take some pictures of me Disneybounding as Princess Ariel! I even found the perfect location. Here is the result:

Keep in mind that I am not in fact a fashion blogger, but dinglehoppers are all the rage as far as I've heard.

I also have this great Ariel necklace saved up from my childhood!

*insert shell clutch purse from this post into left hand*

I have always wanted to Disneybound, but I never thought I'd have the right clothing options to choose from. I think I might try and do it more often now.

Have you ever disneybounded, casual cosplayed, or everyday cosplayed? Let me know in the comments!

And as always,

Bonus:

Speaking of princesses....

Anna! We match!

I met some great Anna and Elsa cosplayers who were at my local farmer's market supporting a children's charity called Holly House. The one dressed as Elsa made the costumes herself all the way down to her shoes! (Which, by the way, they were fantastic! And Anna was a whovian! Totally random, but great experience. We couldn't help but stock up on delicious fruit and berries while we were there! Yum yum!

Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

So this weekend my mom and I decided to go to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle for a little adventure. Here are some of the things we saw and did! (Mostly a bunch of pictures of animals and also my face.)

Bears and wolves, oh my!

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle
This little one really wanted to land on me. It made my day!
This is the first time in my life that it has happened too. I felt so very special.

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle
More of the winged variety. Peacock, Saw-whet owl (very small, but full grown!), and a flamingo.

Left: My ravens and I are ready to take over Westeros.
Right: Monkey kisses are best when they're given by fake monkeys

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

Speaking of monkeys.... and their other variations of species and whatnot (obviously I'm not an animal expert, okay.) Clockwise from top left: black-and-white colobus, (oops sorry don't know!), orangutan, and lemurs

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

"I'm not related to monkeys!"- a little girl said after her dad said they were her "cousins"
and here I am monkeying around.

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

I was actually really disappointed when I found out there wouldn't be any poo paper making.
It must have been a code violation or something.
(Warthogs, lion, and elephant)

Lots of spotted kitties! Clockwise from top left: leopard, ocelot, and cheetah

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo Seattle

More spotted things that aren't as cute to me. My exact words were "I hope Harry Potter isn't here... because I'd be really happy if these three giant snakes didn't escape while I'm here."

April Sprinkles: Weekend Adventures: Woodland Park Zoo SeattleI love zoos even if the animals don't seem to be enjoying themselves. It's still interesting to see them interact with each other and with the people behind the glass in ways that I would never get to see otherwise. This is also one of the best I've been to, and I've been to quite a few! I'm happy we were able to see most of the animals too.

I hope you enjoyed my little photo post! Did you do anything fun this weekend? Let me know in the comments!

5 Things People Who Have Broken Up Recently Are Tired Of Hearing

Life sucks after a breakup. That's true, unless you hated the other person. In which case, you're as happy as a clam! But for those like me who were in love for 5 years, it's a tough thing to get over.

Through my experience of breaking up, I've realized that there are a few things that you just simply shouldn't say to someone who has just broken up. These are a few of those things:

1.) "Just forget about him/her"

Seriously, that's impossible. If anything, you remember more, and it sucks. We just want you to know that "forgetting someone" isn't as simple as it sounds. Maybe you should try it sometime and see for yourself. So far this is the worst thing I've been told to do. Please stop saying it.

2.) "I'm always here if you need to talk" when you're not

Whether you're a person who doesn't fully understand the situation, or doesn't really care, suggesting someone talk to you when you're only trying to be nice isn't nice at all in the long-run. So far I've seen it go two ways. Either you're too busy to actually listen to your friend and give them the care and comfort they need at this time, or you think your own problems are more important.

To the first one, either make time for your friend or say you're sorry and that you're not the person to talk to at this time. Move on without offering up your shoulder to cry on. I'm sure they'll understand and find someone else.

To the second one, guess what? People who have just broken up don't want to hear your problems! They have enough of their own right now. If your way of comforting a friend in pain is to hear their problem and then respond with how you "understand" and mention something that you think is about 10x worse going on in your own life, you really just shouldn't be talking to this person at all. Go find someone else to talk to! People who have broken up want to talk about their own situation. When they're done then they probably will have plenty of time to listen to your problems, because you were so generous to listen to them. You have to remember that friendships are give and take. You shouldn't be making your friend feel worse at the moment by making his or her problems seem like they aren't as important as yours. Get over yourself!

3.) "I'm sorry" or "Boys suck"

I don't think you can even imagine how many times I've heard this over the past month. I get it, you don't know what to say. That's alright, but you could at least try and say something... different. Honestly, I've been guilty of it too. It's hard to know what to say sometimes. You blank out, your heart's not in the conversation, etc. But this here just makes you look like a lazy friend. It's almost as bad as "forget about him" but only because it means you don't know what to say and insinuates that you want your friend to shut up because they're making you uncomfortable. (That's how I feel anyway.)

4.) "There are plenty more fish in the sea" or "you'll find someone else!"

Well I don't know about other girls, but I was pretty excited to start dating/flirting again, yet in the back of my head I still felt connected to my ex. It made me really sad whenever anyone said this to me too. When you break up, unless you hated your ex, you really don't want to think about anyone else. Unless they did something horrible other than just breaking your heart, you still love that jerk and can't even imagine thinking of anyone else taking their place.

So, you really shouldn't say this in first few months following a breakup. Unless the person is talking about meeting someone else, don't even think about bringing it up. More than likely it will remind that person of how much they loved their ex and all the good that was in the relationship. "Rosy retrospection" if you will. So really, you're doing them a horrible disservice by saying this to them so soon after a breakup. They're just going to keep thinking about the person who still holds their heart. And they will fight you tooth and nail trying to make you understand why.

5.) "I think you need to...." AKA any advice not asked for or warranted

It seems like any time someone breaks up, suddenly everyone is an expert on your relationship.
STOP IT! You don't know anything.
The only people who can truly understand the relationship were the two who were in it. (And even then, they might still never know what's going on all the time.) But seriously, they're the only two who come close.

When Alex and I first broke up, or started talking about it, I got to a point where I was really pumped about finding myself again and getting back on my feet. So at first when people would tell me that I should "focus on yourself" I was open to it and hearing it made me feel good. However, after a while it seemed to get repetitive and annoying. Finding yourself and doing what makes you happy takes time, so barking orders at me to do things for myself is one of those things that just isn't going to happen overnight. Unless, you're some kind of breakup superstar, then all power to you! I'm not one of those people. Breaking up is a process that you deal with. You get by, you make do, and you Keep Moving Forward.

--------------------------------------------------------

This little list was brought about by frustration in my own life, obviously. I'm not blaming any of my friends for saying the wrong thing when they didn't know it was wrong or didn't know what else to say. I understand that you mean well, but just wanted you to know that sometimes what you say I really am just sick of hearing or don't want to hear at all. I've been in your place before, and I know that it's a tough place to be in. I've made most of these mistakes myself, and I feel so sorry for ever saying some of these things to my friends because I know how much it hurts after a while. You never know what that other person wouldn't want to hear until you're actually in their situation. And even then, everyone is different. I guess it is sort of passive-aggressive that I wrote this instead of actually telling any of my friends who have said any of the above to me, so sorry about that. I didn't mean to insult you in any way, I guess I just wanted you to understand how it feels.

I really do want to thank all of my friends and family (especially my mom! Love you mom!) who have been supporting me through this tough time.  But more often than not, you listening and helping me get through this has been a huge blessing and I want you all to know that I appreciate it. ♥

To all of those reading, give your friend a break! Try to be a little more understanding, and it will pay of for both of you.

Snail Mail Collective and an update

Life has been sort of crazy for me lately. If you read this post, you'll have a good idea as to why. I'm still recovering and it seems like more time has passed than actually has. That's mostly because every time I try to catch up with my bloglovin' feed more blogs pile on top of it!

But before all that happened last month, I signed up for the Snail Mail Collective with Nectar Collective and Lost in Travels in August. You may be wondering why it has taken me this long to write about it all, well with all the crazyness of breaking up with my boyfriend of 5 years I changed my address, and the package got stuck in the mail for almost three weeks! I only sent mine off last week, and I'm glad it got there. I'm also glad the link-up is giving us both enough time to write our posts, so that's awesome.

Now on to the good stuff!

My partner for the SMC was Tiffany from D'Asti at Tiffany's. The more I read her blog, I realized how alike we really were, which was awesome! I love making new bloggy friends, and I think they did a good job of pairing us up. She will always have a blog fan in me, that's for sure!

Here's what I got from her package that finally made its way here yesterday

April Sprinkles Snail Mail Collective

I should note that she did a much better job at fulfilling the theme of "Under the Sea" than I did. I just drew sea creatures on her package, lol.

She, on the other hand, got me some nautical note cards, a journal, and a seashell cookie cutter that all fit the theme perfectly! (Also, props to her because I am a HUGE fan of nautical!) The other two gifts are a photo frame key chain and a dog cross stitch. The cross-stitch was because we had both been talking about how we wanted dogs, but not right now. I love it! I've always wanted to try cross-stitch too. And of course, along with everything was a very lovely note :)

I highly recommend anyone thinking about joining in the collective to do so. It's a lot of fun meeting new bloggers you might never have come across before. Just because my situation was kind of a disaster, doesn't mean that it will happen to everyone! And eventually when I'm back to my old self I'd love to do another one.

So here's the update on my life I'm sure you're all so very interested in hearing about, lol.

I started walking/running the path near our house recently and have already gotten so much better at it. It was one of the things I was most pumped for doing once I got here. I was also inspired by #runningforsupernannykenz that Kenzie at Chasing Happy started that I wanted in on it. It's a great way to clear my head which is what I need most of all these days.

Another great update is that I'll be participating in a craft fair with one of my best friends next month! Courtney is just getting started blogging, but she's been selling her crocheted goods on Facebook for a few years now. I highly recommend you check her out at ShoesOnYourHead Crochet! I'm really excited for this and have been working my butt off trying to make some scarves for us to sell along with her many hats.

Other than going to the Goodwill Outlet (a LOT), watching a TON of Supernatural, knitting, and seeing some of the sights around this area, there's not much more to report.

I hope the rest of you are doing well :)

Not so suddenly single

This is the post I've had the hardest time writing, and also the post I never expected to have to write.

After 5 years of being together, my boyfriend Alex and I broke up recently. We divided up our stuff and shipped it out so I could live in Washington with my parents while he stays in California.

He first brought it up on Monday when I had gotten back from visiting my parents for a week. Since we lived together and it took some time to pack up my things, we had a lot of time to talk about everything. Thanks to that we ended it on pretty good terms. Far better than I would have expected. So for now, I am a Washington blogger! Damn, I may not be an expat, but I sure do move a lot, don't I?

You may be wanting to ask me how I've stayed so calm during this whole thing. (Because the truth is I have... except for the first 3 days and even then I didn't break anything or commit murder, so I think it went ok.) Well, the way I see it, you make a conscious decision to either stay mad or keep moving forward and forgive. I made the decision to be happy and calm during everything and it paid off (Even after a couple of melt-downs). When he drove me up to Oregon to meet my mom halfway with some of my stuff, it was actually one of the best road trips we've had together. (And we've had a LOT!) It's something I won't regret in the long run. I mean, it sucks and my heart is still broken right now, but I'll get through this.

April Sprinkles: Not So Suddenly Single

I guess another thing that got me through this breakup is the fact that I had just read a book about breakups the week before. John Green is one of my favorite authors and vloggers and he wrote the book "An Abundance of Katherines" in which the main character has been dumped 19 times by 18 Katherines and has to deal with the last and most painful breakup while having adventures with his best friend. I don't think I would have done so well without reading this book, because every other time I've broken up with someone it has always felt like there's nothing after the breakup. That there will only ever be pain and suffering. This book helped me realize that there is so much more to experience after a breakup, and that it is not the end of the world. Even the end of a relationship that meant so much to me for so long didn't seem as bad after that.

Coincidentally, at the same time I was reading AAOK, Alex was reading "The Fault in Our Stars" also by John Green. It's one of my favorite books and is about a girl named Hazel who is dealing with Cancer and it is full of feels. (Filming for the movie just recently started and I am really excited!) So being the book that it is, (and if you haven't read it, I suggest you do) it made him think about a lot of things and question where we were going in life. Even though it led him down the path that eventually led us to breaking up, I can never blame the story because it affects others differently when they read it.

So we talked, a lot, and after our talks, it became pretty obvious to me that this change would be good for both of us. (Despite losing part of my heart. Is that too dramatic? lol) I've already started planning lots of new things for me to do that for some reason I never had the motivation to accomplish while living with Alex.

My goals for life thus far will be:
  • Getting a job
  • Going back to school and finding a good career path
  • Start running again, and I have a new challenge and purpose for it thanks to the two Kenzies at Chasing Happy, and Life According to Kenz using #runningforsupernannykenz on Twitter and Instagram
  • Blog with a purpose. Plan and make it happen. I have been such a bad blogger, and I know it!
  • Have fun and enjoy life as much as possible
  • Get friends back into my life
So that's pretty much it! I'm excited for new adventures and getting my life in order instead of it standing still like it has been, but I'm still sad that the love had to end in order for it to happen.

If I could dish out any advice at this point it would be that relationships take work. Never assume that things are okay all the time and make sure that the needs of both of you are being met. This is also true for friendships, although the best of friends will be there for you no matter what even after a lengthy absence from eachother's lives. I am so very grateful that my friends and family have been there for me during this tough time. I am so blessed to have them in my life.

Silly me...

So with all this talk about Google Reader shutting down (Oh I'm sure this is the 100th or more post you've seen about it. My Bloglovin feed has been full of them too!) I started getting a little freaked out and had a few questions.

When I first found out I immediately got bloglovin' because I thought that would make everything better, and really it has. I still was under the impression that even after doing that there would be some blogs I would miss out on because Google Reader was shutting down (Oh noes! The Reader apocalypse!)

And then I realized that Google Reader isn't Google Friend Connect and that in fact I had not been using it at all this whole entire time. I've actually been using Blogger's reader. Then I felt silly for freaking out so much (which wasn't all that much, really) preparing for the internet apocalypse because the two things that I was using are not in fact going away at all. Hooray! Sometimes, you guys, posting about things like Reader shutting down can confuse inexperienced amateur bloggers like me. You really shouldn't do that. :P

I still use GFC but I mostly use Bloglovin now, because it's great!
Still on the fence? I'm sending peer pressure your way! haha

I know I'm not the only one! Was anyone else confused too?

Anyway, this weekend we're going to pick up a very special little lady. As some of you may know, the marine has a daughter I used to call lil'A. Well, lil'A is now almost as tall as I am... not so little anymore, lol. Since she's outgrowing clothes, it seems she's outgrowing nicknames too so from now on she'll be known as the Kiddo! I won't be posting any pictures of her for her own privacy, but if I ever get time to blog while we're spending time together this summer, there will probably be some posts about the stuff we'll be doing/making!

On that note, I had planned on writing a handful of posts to fill in some gaps, but time got away from me and here I am with a bunch of half-written posts. I didn't get many of the crafts I wanted to do done before she got here either, but who knows how things will go! I might get time to write and craft for myself after all. I'll still try to keep up with my blogroll, but forgive me in advance for my absence!

Oh and what else?
I started using twitter again. So uh, tweet me?

What I learned from his deployment

I just realized that I never wrote a post like this after the Marine's deployment was over. So if you're new to the whole deployment business or maybe even a long-distance relationship, here is what I learned from deployment as a girlfriend. Maybe you can learn from my mistakes or feel better with my advice.

What I learned from his Deployment: April Sprinkles

1.) You will get almost zero sleep before you say "see ya later." The song "Daylight" by Maroon 5 comes to mind. And really, it doesn't even matter. Unless you're so tired you can't even drive back home after dropping them off, then it's a problem. You won't regret those last few cuddles or whatever you both plan on doing before he leaves. The tiredness will help get you through that first day without him. Don't spend this time being a pain in the ass, and don't regret any of it later. It's a waste of time. More than likely you will see him again, even if it is on Skype.

2.) The first few months will be filled with self-pity. This is especially true if you had lived with your service member/significant other before they went away. You will be sad, you will miss them, you will see their pictures and cry... etc. You just have to remember that they are in a much suckier situation, and unlike them you can do something about yourself.

You won't want to, but you need to go out and do things. Drag your butt out of that house! I know some of you aren't able to travel back home like I did to live with your families, so you need to find some other kind of motivation. Maybe something you always wanted to do but your SO was never interested in? Finding friends in a military town without having your SO around can be difficult to nearly impossible unless you're socially gifted. Which leads me to my next realization.

3.) Sometimes the FRO's (Family Readiness Officers) aren't that great, but they will send you some valuable information. Make sure that your service member put you on this person's contact list so you will get all the updates personally without having to beg his family or anyone else for that information. They might even invite you to some social gatherings. After I moved back to Oregon, I got a call asking if I wanted to join in a kickball game back at Camp Lejeune. If you go to the outings they plan, you will meet new people and experience new things. Even if you're shy, at least you're there and not at home crying. Staying at home crying won't change the fact that's he's somewhere else. You didn't break up, he just deployed.

4.) OPSEC is very important! That stands for Operation Security. "Loose lips sink ships" and it doesn't matter if your guy is on a ship or on a plane on his way to Afghanland. Talking about specific dates on Facebook or any other social network is a GINORMOUS no-no. Don't do it! Live by it and tell anyone who asks about it. If they're not directly related to this person, they don't need to know. It sounds superstitious, but you never know these days. People can be shady. It's better to be safe than sorry. You live by OPSEC now. Be as vague as possible.

5.) There are tons of support groups out there. On Facebook, the ones I most often frequented were Our Deployment: 101, Semper FiLadies, and MissYourVoice which sells care packages as well as offers support. If you look harder, you should be able to find one that fits you perfectly. This is for days when you're feeling especially down or feel like sharing advice with others. Do NOT spend the whole time on your computer talking to these people. You will go insane.

If you've got a blog, participate in link-ups. You will find lots of other military SO's who are blogging about the same thing and you might make some new bloggy friends! Plus it gives you something to write about. You could also participate in a blogging challenge (like a blog every day challenge)  or do a photography challenge to pass the time.

I loved the support groups, the only problem with them was that I was so freaking excited about a giveaway one page was having (we're talking massive giveaway with a ton of donors) that I ended up liking a ton of pages I wouldn't have liked normally. (And I still haven't been able to un-like all of them.) Business that sell bags made of uniforms or name tape bracelets. When I saw those I honestly thought that everyone was using them, and that all this pride was a normal thing. And I wanted one because that was the mindset.

But guess what? It's definitely not necessary to buy those bags or bracelets or whatever. Well, unless you want to, but you don't need them to "fit in" or show your pride. People will make fun of anything, but some people actually get offended by the bags! (Ridiculous right? I understand it, but... ugh I'm torn.) And then of course there's Daddy Dolls, in case you have little ones. There's nothing wrong with that, I suggest you get one!

6.) Get a Hobby. Crafting helped me out a lot, and I thank all the people who requested projects from me during the deployment. Find something that you like to do, it could even be exercising (which you should be doing anyway) or geocaching or whatever! Just do something. Maybe take some classes or get a job. The job I highly recommend because not only are you getting money, but you're wasting time till your guy gets back. Oh and you might make some friends! Win/win. The more you are out in the world, or out of your own head (and not in the crazy way) the more time will pass by without you feeling completely down in the dumps.

7.) Conversation with your guy is never guaranteed. You have to accept this as soon as possible and don't get mad at them for any lack. Just do your own best to send them love and they will reply when they get the chance. (But don't flood them. Max 2 messages a day because they might not be able to read them all.) Be happy whenever you do get to hear from him, and cherish every moment. Don't spend your precious time complaining to him. Find someone else to complain to. He's probably going to do most of the complaining anyway, lol. Just let him get it out, because did I mention it sucks where he is? It sucks more than where you are, don't even argue with me about that. It sucks.

8.) This is most important to remember. Unless he really is a shady character (there will be signs), he more than likely loves you, misses you, and thinks of you all the time. He is missing that nice, soft bed with you in it and your cuddles just as much as you miss him. Actually, it might even be more on his side, because at least you're in civilization. I can't even begin to explain, because I don't truly understand myself, how marines and other service members are as a large group. They have something completely different that unless you've been enlisted you will never understand.

Send him care packages! But be aware that he will probably be inspected or will share them with his friends. Try not to embarrass him with what you put in the boxes, or at least give him a warning to open it in private. I filled mine with foods he wasn't able to get, but wouldn't expire and wouldn't melt. Chocolate is a definite no. It gets messy fast. I also ended up sending him body wash, protein bars, shavers, and lots of other random things he needed but couldn't buy. Just be aware of his surroundings, ask him what he wants/needs/could use, and buy accordingly. Pack things in bags that might be broken so they don't spill all over. Feel free to decorate it like the MissYourVoice business does, but it's not necessary. They will love the fact that you sent them things!

9.) You are strong. You are brave. You can get through this! You do not need the affections of another man to help you get through a deployment with your service member or your boyfriend's absence. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME? Read my "How not to cheat" post. Don't be stupid, okay? If you really need sex that bad, they have toys for that. If you need cuddles, make yourself a boyfriend pillow.

This is the part where I get angry and mean because I heard all the time "I can't handle this" "I need to feel his touch again" and it drove me BANANAS! I want to slap that shit out of you right now! You need to get your act together and get in the mindset of a long-distance girlfriend or you need to get out. Being in a long-distance relationship is hard, but it's not that hard. I've been doing it for years! But then again, some of us are just more cut-out for it than others.

It's okay to cry and feel like you can't take it any more as long as you go back to dealing with it normally. Don't give up yet.

10.) Learn to be alone.

This video helped me out a lot, but I had already known how to be alone with myself and my own thoughts for quite some time. If that's not your thing, then get out there and make some new friends. #2 and #5 should help you with that.

This is important though, remember that even though you are technically alone, you aren't single and you aren't really alone. Because you carry him with you wherever you go. You are thinking of him, and he is thinking of you. Don't let those thoughts make you sad. You have so many happy memories to remember and to look forward to. You might as well make a few while he's away.

It's your choice to be happy or be miserable.

When Alex was deployed, I joined in a link-up here in the blogosphere called "What's your song?" It gave me a bunch of songs that helped me get through the deployment. Some are happy, some are just for feelings. Either way, maybe it will help you out.

Deployment playlist:

It's not that many anymore because some have been deleted, but I add to it once in a while.
If you have some, I'd love to see them, so please share them in the comments!

Do you have any advice to add about deployments or long-distance relationships? Or, what did you learn from your SO's deployment?

May Flowers Everywhere

For the Pieces of Happy Link up with Chasing Happy I decided to write it a little different, so bear with me.

You know how the old adage goes, and there doesn't seem to be a lack of spring flowers in my neck of the woods. Not only am I crocheting a bunch of them for my cousin's wedding, but I'm also reading this book: The Language of Flower by Vanessa Diffenbaugh.

April Sprinkles: May Flowers Everywhere

I was drawn to this book immediately. When I was younger, I too had a fascination with the meanings behind flowers as the narrator does. As I grew older and started looking at the "grown up" books on my parent's giant bookshelves, I found a book about the meanings behind flowers (actually it was named "the Language of Flowers" too) in a beautiful purple hardback. It quickly became one of my favorites to go back to reading whenever I felt the need. There was even this little booklet I found that had a similar theme and I would take it with me everywhere and hide it places so that it would never get thrown away. It was my own special treasure. I don't think I ever really learned anything from them though.

Reading this book has brought back that spark that I had back then. I love the idea of subtle meanings behind things whether it be flowers, colors, or song lyrics. While I may not be able to relate to the narrator's life in the foster care system, I can relate to her enthusiasm to learning about the meanings behind flowers and using that knowledge to help others relay their own feelings. Plus the story is pretty interesting too. I have yet to finish it, but so far so good.

Then I took a couple of trips to Pacific Grove after watching some movies in the IMAX in Cannery Row. If you don't know about the beautiful purple flowers there... you are missing out. They are called ice plants, and when they're all blooming at once it is really spectacular. I read somewhere that they were planted to attract butterflies. Here are just a few of my pics from the outing.

The ice plants had started to close up when I got there near sunset.

See those big mounds of what I call Starfish Plants in the second picture? Turns out they are actually called Aloe arborescens, and unfortunately I missed out on something freaking amazing that they do which can be seen here. It's called fiery Aloe spikes, in case you needed any more motivation to click.
Pacific Grove is truly one of the most beautiful places in Cali. (Well, as far as I've seen!)

Of course, I didn't forget that I mentioned I was crocheting a bunch of flowers for my cousin's wedding. There will be another post all about that though, so I'll leave you with a teaser pic.

Her wedding colors are brown and green.

So yeah, basically I just want to say that the beauty in nature is one of the things I am most thankful for this week/month. Without it, life would be a bunch of suck.

Also: Iron Man 3.

Especially the part where RDJ dances.

Cue me melting because now I have a huge lust crush on him just for that little dance. I don't think I paid attention to the rest of the movie, I'm sure it was good. (JK, I did and it was better than good.)

We also got to see Alien in the theater on Wednesday. It was a one-night only thing and the marine even changed his duty day because he wanted to see it that badly! I had only ever seen it once before, and I'm glad the last movie in the franchise I watched was Prometheus. It helped the original make more sense even if it wasn't that great ;) (You can't cut a freaking alien baby out of you without crying and/or dying! That just doesn't happen. No woman is that strong. /rant)

So that's pretty much what I've been up to lately. The month is going by waaay too fast, and this week was blah. So other than working on the project and occasionally getting out of the house it's been a lot of watching shows and cleaning around the house.

Is it weird that as a whovian I am more excited to watch Orphan Black than I am to watch Doctor Who?! I feel bad, but the plot is so interesting, I can't help it! Anyone else share my feelings?

So what are your pieces of happy for this week? Join me at the link-up!

Somewhat exciting news

I'll bet many of you had forgotten about me by now! Well, the reason why I haven't been blogging is because I've been preoccupied with the job hunt. I've put out several applications, only two of which actually went to interviews (within the same week), and finally it has ended with getting my current dream job!

Yes, that's right ladies! I now work at the arts & crafts mecca of stores: Michael's!!!

You see, I'm the kind of person who likes to keep special moments like this to myself until it's a definite and then I am more than happy to share them with the rest of the world! That's why I haven't mentioned it very much. (I don't like to jinx things like that.) But now I am really excited to start work and help others be crafty in my town! :) I think it's a perfect fit for me

I have to say this because it's important for you, my readers, to know that now just because I work at Michael's, my blog is not sponsored in any way by the company and all thoughts and postings are my own and are not affiliated with Michael's stores. Unless otherwise stated, I will not be paid to endorse any of Michael's products/services. If I do write about or mention them, it will be of my own free will and with out-of-pocket expense. I think that takes care of it pretty much :)

In other news, I've finished one cupcake scarf and have almost finished the second one. I'm hoping to take pictures later today :)

Thanks for reading!
